VOLUNTEERING: To make it easier for folks to volunteer, we are happy to announce mileage reimbursement for sanctioned volunteers for trips to signal test, install, support, or other MRIC activities. Please use the special MRIC spreadsheet that these members received in an email to record mileage to be reimbursed at the IRS rate of $0.38/mile. You should submit this preferably every month, or at least once per quarter, to: accounting@mric.coop for reimbursement. If you have records, you may go file back to the beginning of 2004. Trading some reduced fees or free service for this effort is a small token of thanks by the cooperative. Volunteers are eligible for free service and for Colorado Workman's Compensation insurance provided they return an Independent Contractors Agreement. Free Service requires an average commitment of 8 hours or more per month. Your first quarter of volunteer service is your probation period. If a MRIC Project Lead (such as a Neighborhood Install Coordinator, Support Director, Volunteer Coordinator, Board Member) agrees you are a good volunteer and tells our Accounting volunteers then the next MRIC invoice for that volunteer will reflect a 100% discount. Independent Contractors who receive more than $600 per year in payments or services will receive a 1099 per IRS regulations. Reimbursements for mileage and equipment will not count toward this threshold. Volunteers who do not care about free service and Workman's Compensation insurance should fill out the Volunteer Waiver agreement. These individuals will never get a 1099 issued. Completed forms should be signed and mailed back to Magnolia Road Internet Cooperative, P.O. Box 1671, Nederland, CO 80466. Download the Contractor Agreement. Download the Volunteer Waiver. If you want to become involved or have questions on a specific position, please e-mail volunteer@mric.coop |
