High Speed Internet Access Getting
Connected Installation & Equipment
After your location's coordinates have been analyzed for Line of Sight to an MRIC PoP, the next phase of the process is a Signal Test and Site Survey.
Volunteers will arrive and test the MRIC wireless signal with a laptop and an antenna on a hand-held mast to determine if you have an acceptable signal. The signal test and signal quality determines where the antenna will be mounted.
The Volunteers also take measurements to determine the equipment, materials, and supplies needed for the install based on the location of computers in the house.
After a successful test and survey, the Volunteers will review the MRIC membership and installation process with you and answer any questions you have.
Installation can be conducted by either MRIC Volunteers, who will do the installation labor for free, or paid installers (either MRIC recommended or others). Contact the membership coordinator to make arrangements or for a list of MRIC recommended installers.
Installation includes mounting and aiming the antenna, cabling to the entry point into the house, mounting and grounding the lightning arrestor, drilling the cable entry hole into the house, setting up the indoor equipment, weatherproofing the installed connections, and configuring the network settings.
After the successful install volunteers will review MRIC membership, invoicing, email/web hosting, and support processes and will address any additional questions/concerns.
MRIC stocks standard Client Routers, antennas, mounting hardware, cables, lightning arrestors, grounding supplies, and small uninterruptible power supplies. These are provided to members at MRIC cost.
Depending on the antenna mount location, an indoor or an outdoor Client Router may be used. Generally if the antenna can be within about 35 feet of the entry point to the house, an indoor Client Router can be used. An outdoor Client Router can be used up to about 300 feet from the entry point.
The Client Router contains a Firewall, NAT gateway, and DHCP server which are all enabled with the standard configuration. The Client Router connects via its wireless WAN port to the MRIC network and provides Ethernet LAN access to the house.
This is the current list of standard equipment and the member cost for each item.

Members have many types of computers and other equipment linked by wired or wireless networks within the house. The only concern MRIC has with Member's local equipment is possible Radio interference or network configuration conflicts that could harm your service or the service of others.
Installers will help with any necessary initial configuration of member equipment to successfully get you up and working, but please be aware that the support for MRIC service is not meant to extend past the Client Router! Members are responsible for your own local computers and internal network.
