Please pass this on to everyone that you know who lives in the Canyon. We ALL need to stick together and put an end to this sort of thing to keep our canyon safe for our children and families. Please keep your eyes and ears peeled for anything that looks suspicous and do not hesitate to call the police! Be on the lookout for a white van that appears to be stopped on the side of the road--it may be casing an area.
On 8/31/07 there were 4 KNOWN BURGLARIES off of Copperdale Lane.
- Inspiration Rd
- Ridge Rd just off the Upper Brook Rd Circle
- Brook Rd
- Pine Rd just off of The Lane
One other known burglary about 2 weeks ago on Chute Rd off of Gross Damn Rd by same white van
Each home was broken into during BROAD DAYLIGHT when NOBODY WAS HOME! One house was apparently "cased"--they were outside for about 3 days for 10-15 min in a white van looking at the area and then didn't show up for a while until...yesterday.
Methods of entry:
- Cut the screen of an open window
- Through glass sliding doors (didn't have the bar latched across for protection)
- Through a doggy door (of a home with two very loud and viscous (to those who do not know them) dogs)
- Police speculate that the burglars lured the dogs out with treats or raw meat.
- When owners returned home, their front door was open and the dogs out on the driveway--where they never are!
- Items taken:
- Stereo system
- TVs
- DVD players
- VCR
- Computers
- Binoculars: I find this one kind of scary personally...
- Jewelry (apparently, they were able to discern between good jewelry and costume--left behind costume jewelry and took only the good stuff along with the case)
- GUNS
- Pharmaceuticals of all types: cancer medication, cold medications, pain killers etc. Could mean that we're dealing with someone strung out on drugs.
- Personal belongings were thrown out of all drawers. Apparently, one house had their walls punched in and spray paint all over. But, generally, this has not been the case.
Things you can do:
- Pass this email around to everyone that you know in the Canyon
- Call everyone that you know and make sure that they are aware of what's going on
- Put up signs at your intersections notifying "NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH ZONE"
- Someone placed a sign up on Ridge Rd heading up to Coal Creek Heights (I haven't had a chance to check it out yet)--THANK YOU to whomever did that one. I plan on emulating that and putting one on either end of my street.
- Do not leave your home without closing and locking all of your windows and doors
- Do not leave your keys or purse in your car overnight
- Do not leave your doggy doors open, it might be too dangerous right now
- Leave a car parked out in your driveway
- Be aware of cars that seem to be suspicuos or loitering...
Let's all stick together and do our best to put an end to this.
KEEP OUR CANYON SAFE!
Thanks so much for your time and support in this important matter
